Carl Stewart's Farm is located in Bay Minett, AL. For the past 9 years, he has rotated his crops on a 10-acre plot. Back in the 1980s, as a younger man, he farmed 700 plus acres of row crops. He, like so many at that time, had to move away from farming to make a living. We are so glad he has made it back to what he enjoys doing and does so well. Carl grows beautiful vegetables all utilizing responsible growing techniques. Carl currently is providing chards, beets, carrots, collards, turnips and more to the local market.
Jimmy Fidler, pioneer peanut farmer since 1995. Jimmy is the only farmer in this area growing super jumbo peanuts. Fidler Farms is based out of Silverhill, AL. It is a little out of the way but well worth the drive to many. The Farm of Pensacola carries Fidler Farm's Raw, Roasted, and Green Peanuts ( green is only available in the spring and fall). The Farm uses Fidler Farms' Jumbo Peanuts exclusively for our boiled peanut recipe's.
Spicy and Basic Mix, Kohlrabi, Wasabi, Basil, Arugula, Buckwheat Pea Shoots, and Radish are all "micro wonders" offered by Lee Johnson. Lee grows 12-- 15 varieties of microgreens right here in Pensacola, Florida. She creates very nice blends as well as single variety 1.5 oz. packages. Lees microgreens are vitamin and mineral rich and all pack a punch of flavor. Lee has bee growing microgreens for going on 3 years and business is good. We not only love Lees mixes for their flavor but they also have an excellent shelf life of up to 10 days.
We proudly carry Orchid Island Fresh Squeezed Juices. Family owned and operated, and a big success story. Orchid Island ships juices all over the USA and abroad. I remember the first time I tried their product in the mid-1990s. I was so impressed with the flavor and over 21-day shelf life. I was blown away because there were no additives or preservatives. Unheard of at that time! I actually called and spoke to the founder, Marygrace. She surprisingly answered the phone. She took the time to tell me how they blended new crop oranges with the old crop to mellow out tart characteristics that the new crop brings. She also explained that they lightly pasteurized the juice, killing any bacteria. Hence, giving them that 21-day shelf life. The product is as amazing now as it was then. Nothing really compares to the quality. We love Orchid Island Juices out of Vero Beach, Florida, in the Indian River growing area.
We are privileged to be associated with West Coast Mushroom, located in Quincy, Florida. They supply The Farm with most of our domestic white mushrooms. Additionally, they supply Shitake, Portabellas, Crimini, Oyster mushrooms and other more exotic and mushroom blends. Their mushrooms are delivered to us 3 times a week, assuring the freshest quality possible. Unless, of course, you happen to be there for the harvest. Owners, Abel, and Alvaro Gamboa, started growing mushrooms here in the Panhandle in 2010. They also have a mushroom farm in Maryland. The name West Coast is a nod to the location being in the Panhandle on the West Coast of Florida.
C&D Grits Cantonment, Florida
Locally owned and operated by Cloyd and Dorothy Bruton, the Cantonment couple has been making fresh grits and cornmeal from scratch for over 10 years. They acquired a 1927 "hit and miss" engine and grinder and have been hooked ever since. The gasoline-powered engine uses two 12-inch granite stones to grind yellow corn into tiny grains.
According to the Brutons "We're doing it the old-fashioned way. We buy our corn straight from the farm. We're trying to keep some heritage alive." Bruton said they produce a fresher product that has no added ingredients, compared to store-bought grits and cornmeal ground from steel rollers that lose some of their flavor and nutrition from the mill to the store shelf.
Their grits and meal are produced here at The Farm. If you are lucky, you can witness the creation of their product and marvel at the engine and grinder.
The Tim White Family and Friends grow Red Potatoes and Gold Potatoes, primarily. Tim is a jet-setter literally. He travels overseas and around the US working on aircraft engines. When we call him, there is no telling where he is laying his head to rest. But when he is home, he is farming! He and his family love farming and take pride in growing some of the best spuds around. The attention to detail necessary for modern aircraft is evident in the crops they produce. He also occasionally grows sweet potatoes. They are so sweet they bleed sugar. Red potato season will be here in the late spring. We are all anxiously awaiting the harvest.

Herb and Pepper Farm, in Loxley, Alabama. In a quiet little neighborhood, there is a modest backyard that has been transformed into a very productive farm of over 30 delicious herbs and vegetables. Jesse refers to his massive number of sprouting plants as Nano Farms. Jesse grows amazing micro greens. He specializes in heirloom varieties of vegetables and herbs. He has specialty items such as Carolina Reapers, chervil, squash blossoms, and micro lemon basil to name a few. What is really cool is he shows people how to grow their own nano farms.
